Abstract
1484931 Lasers XEROX CORP 13 Sept 1974 39982/74 Heading H1C In a direct current gas discharge laser which requires a prolonged warming up period before operating at an elevated temperature, the laser is maintained at or near the operating temperature during inoperative periods by substituting a discharge-sustaining A.C. supply for the direct current excitation. The laser 10 may comprise helium-cadmium operating at a temperature of about 240‹ C., the gas discharge electrodes 11, 12 being alternatively connected to a D.C. supply 15 and an A.C. supply 13 by a changeover switch 16, a decoupling condenser 14 being provided. For alternate operating periods the D.C. supply polarity may be reversed.
