Abstract

1484912 Tampon inserter INTERNATIONAL PLATEX INC 14 Oct 1974 [18 Oct 1973] 44476/74 Heading A5R A tampon inserter 10 comprises a barrel portion 14 with insertion end 28, cylindrical finger grip 16 and plunger 20, the insertion end including a multiplicity of triangular segments 30 which converge towards each other to form a dome and have a thickness less than that of the barrel portion 14 so that they are flexible enough to allow the passage of tampon 12 therethrough. This reduction in thickness between the barrel portion and the segments may be achieved either by injection moulding of thermoplastics or thermosetting plastics, or by use of laminated cardboard omitting some laminate layers at the insertion end. The finger grip portion 16 may be, of lesser equal or greater diameter than the barrel portion 14, of greater thickness to increase strength and have circumferential grooves 18 the plunger 20 being oval to grip the sides thereof by exertion of outward pressure. To use the inserter the tampon is loaded in the front insertion end and the withdrawal string 24 pulled through the plunger, the insertion end is closed using a heated die. The tampon can then be -ejected by depressing the plunger.
