Abstract
1484506 Vehicle steering CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 15 Nov 1974 [19 Nov 1973] 49592/74 Heading B7H [Also in Division E1] An hydraulic system for steering a vehicle, e.g. an earth-moving bowl scraper and operating auxiliary equipment, e.g. a scraper bowl elevator comprises an auxiliary equipment drive motor 14 which is driven at high speed, when selector 16 is at position "3", by fluid from pumps 22, 24 and 56 unless the vehicle makes a sharp turn in which case the fluid from pump 56 is, for the duration of the turn, directed to the steering cylinders to supplement fluid from pump 59. With the selector 16 at position "3" fluid from pilot supply can pass via valves 20 and 28 to move valve spool 44 against spring bias to bring conduits 50, 52 into communication. Slight turning of the vehicle, by the operator manipulating steering lever 58 does not interrupt communication between conduits 34 and 42. However when a sharp turn is to be made the spool 33 is displaced such that conduits 34 and 42 are out of communication. When the selector 16 is in positions "1" and "2", conduits 32, 34 are out of communication and the motor 14 is driven respectively by fluid from pump 22, and fluid from both the pumps 22 and 24. In the neutral position "N" no fluid passes to motor 14. Detent 13 retains the slide 12 in a selected position.
