Abstract

1484398 Ratchet gearing ASSOCIATED BRITISH MACHINE TOOL MAKERS Ltd 9 July 1976 [8 May 1975] 19333/75 Heading F2Q [Also in Division B3] An indexing mechanism comprises a turret 1 having equiangularly spaced indexing pins 2 and alternatingly arranged equiangularly spaced recesses 9 in the periphery of the turret, and a reciprocating slide 3 which carries a pivotally mounted hook 4 having a slot 6 which is adapted to engage the pins 2 and also carries a detent 10 which is adapted to engage the recesses 9. The hook 4 may be urged towards the turret 1 by the force of gravity, aided by a spring 8 if desired. At the end of the indexing stroke, the hook 4 is prevented from rotating about its axis 5 by a fixed guide 12, Fig. 1. Between indexing strokes, the turret 1 is clamped in position by a pneumatically or hydraulically operated ram which is controlled by movement of the slide 3. Alternatively, the detent 10 may be wedge-shaped.
