Abstract

1484202 Brake boosters GIRLING Ltd 7 July 1975 [20 July 1974] 32237/74 Heading F2F A brake booster having a movable wall 6 to opposite sides of which are applied differential pressures to provide a force augmenting the output has reaction means comprising an annular reaction plate 33 of corrugated outline which, in use, flexes to transmit a load from the wall 6 to the output member 31 and to transmit the reactive portion of the output load back to the input member 27 to provide "feel". The wall 6 comprises a diaphragm 9 and a piston part 7 which is provided with forwardly directed projections 36 each forming a fulcrum about which the plate 33 tends to turn and the output member 31 has connected thereto an annular abutment plate provided with projections 38 corresponding in number to projections 36. When the servomotor is energized wall 6 applies a thrust to output member 31 via fingers (34) of the plate which in turn react against a valve spool 28 to provide "feel" through member 27 the magnitude of the "feel" being determined by the relative radial distances between spool 28, fulcrum 39 and the fulcrum defined by projections 36.
