Abstract
1484201 Dewaxing oils DEUTSCHE TEXACO AG 27 Jan 1975 28435/74 Heading C5E Mineral oil (e.g. refrigerator oil) containing less than 2 wt. per cent of n-paraffins is dewaxed by (a) dissolving the oil in an organic solvent which does not form an adduct with urea and in which urea is substantially insoluble, (b) mixing the oil solution with an excess (e.g. 10-20 fold) of solid urea; (c) vigorously mixing the oil solution and urea to form a dispersion of solid urea and adduct in the solution, and (d) separating the dispersion to provide a solids-free solution of dewaxed oil. The process can be carried out by introducing a dispersion of oil solution and solid urea into the central portion of a decanting column, withdrawing a solids-free solution of the dewaxed oil from the upper end of the column, and withdrawing the dispersion from the lower end of the column (e.g. after an average-residence of 10-80 minutes at 25-45‹ C.) by means of a pump and recycling it to the central portion of the column after dividing a partial stream from the dispersion. The partial stream is separated into a solids-free stream, which is either combined with the solids-free solution withdrawn from the top of the column or returned to the circulating dispersion, and a solids portion which is decomposed by heating or extraction with fresh solvent to recover urea, which is recycled to the column, and n-paraffins.
