Abstract

1484063 Trioxan terpolymerization DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT VORMALS ROESSLER 1 Oct 1974 [13 Nov 1973] 42486/74 Heading C3P Trioxan is copolymerized with a monocyclic ether or formal and with up to 5% of a diglycerol diformal, i.e. the compound of structure or a mixture thereof with isomeric compounds in the presence of perchloric acid or an organic ester thereof or a mixed anhydride of perchlorie acid and a carboxylic acid as catalyst. The presence of molecular weight regulators, the use of trioxan containing water as an impurity and the use of bulk conditions are preferred. Examples refer to the production of trioxan-1,3- dioxolan, 1,3-dioxocane, 1,3-dioxepane or 1,3,6- trioxocane-diglycerol diformal or (for comparison) pentaerythritol diformal terpolymers in bulk using perchloric acid, acetyl or t-butyl perchlorate catalysts and in some cases butylal as regulator.
