Abstract

1,200,319. 1,3-Dioxolane. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 28 Dec., 1967 [29 Dec., 1966], No. 58817/67. Heading C2C. 1,3-Dioxolane is prepared by heating an aqueous solution of formaldehyde and ethylene glycol in the presence of an acid catalyst in a reactor with simultaneous removal of the product vapour containing dioxolane from the reactor, the concentration of the catalyst in the reactor being from 0À05 to 30% by weight of mineral acid or an equivalent weight of another acid, the mean residence time of the aqueous reaction mixture in the reactor being from one minute to two hours and the product vapour leaving the reactor being brought into contact in a column having at least one theoretical tray with a substantially completely equilibrated liquid reaction mixture.
