1484018 Flexible sealing slings DRAFTEX DEVELOPMENT AG 21 Oct 1974 [28 Nov 1973] 55054/73 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 B6 and E1] A sealing strip for use as a draught excluding seal, beading or window channel or for covering welded flanges in vehicle construction comprises heat-hardened metal carrier means of channel form enclosed within flexible covering material which conforms to the cross-sectional shape of the carrier means. The strip may be made by bending a metal carrier for the strip into channel form, heat-hardening the channel form carrier and then extruding the flexible material over it. In particular, a flat metal blank may be formed into a number of interconnected strip-like elements 6 by punching out or by slitting and rolling to form the carrier which is then shaped to the channel form shown in Fig. 2. Alternatively, the carrier may be formed of interwoven wire or of transverse metal elements interconnected by wires. Heat-hardening may be effected by H.F. induction heating or, particularly if the carrier is of mild steel, by immersion in a heated salt bath followed by quenching. After covering with flexible material, the carrier may be flexed to break it into individual carrier elements. The flexible material may be provided with a decorative design during extrusion or by covering with further material bearing such design. The carrier may have a flat or concave base.
