Abstract
1483812 Varistors GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 23 Sept 1974 [27 Sept 1973] 41268/74 Heading H1K In order to enhance adhesion of a contact 13 to a varistor body 11 and coating 12, the coating 12 includes grains of particulate material 19, 20. As shown, some of the grains 19 protrude beyond the coating surface to present a roughened surface for contact deposition. The grains 19, 20 may be of the reaction product of additives to the main component, ZnO, of the body 11, which include oxides of Bi, Co, Ti and Mn. The coating 12 also includes a volatile liquid vehicle and compounds of Bi, B, Si and Sb. The coating is heated to 600-1000‹ C.-low enough not to melt the grains 19, 20. Contacts 13 (14) (Fig. 1, not shown) are applied of Ag paste or by a metallic flame spray. The grains 19, 20 may alternatively be of Al 2 O 3 .
