Abstract

1483519 Thin cellulosic films BRITISHAMERICAN TOBACCO CO Ltd 11 Dec 1974 [12 Dec 1973] 53611/74 Heading C3F [Also in Division A2] Films for use as cigarette paper comprise: (a) 10-45% finely ground paper, (b) 1À5-2À8% KNO 3 , (c) 0-40% whitener, preferably TiO 2 , and (d) 20-55% thermoplastic binder selected from cellulose ethers, cellulose esters and mixtures thereof. 50% of the pores have a diameter of 3 microns or less in the films used. The preferred binder is a mixture of acetyl cellulose and methyl cellulose. A plasticizer is optionally present. In examples, powdered charcoal and alumina powder are disclosed as additives. Sheets cast from solutions of the composition are found to be microporous.
