Abstract

1482944 Typewriters S KURAMOCHI 6 Aug 1974 [19 Feb 1974] 34566/74 Heading B6F A typewriter comprising a type basket (2, Fig. 1, not shown) and a platen assembly (3) includes case shift mechanism to displace the platen, in which a key lever 22 or 23, Fig. 3, pulls a rod 31 to pivot a lever 100 which carries a frame 103, Fig. 6, supporting a lifting element 104 engaging the platen carriage through a rod 97. The key lever 22 is latched down by a spring urged latching bar 124, Fig. 3, which can be released by depressing key lever 23. A third case-shift key lever 21 is provided to lower the platen to permit three sets of type to be carried by the type bars, key lever 21 acting through a rod 30 on a lever 108 which displaces the lifting element 104 with respect to frame 103 against a spring 106, whereby a portion 105 thereof is removed to permit the shaft 97 to be lowered. Release of the key lever 21 allows return of the lifting element 104, the portion 105 being shaped to cam the shaft upwardly.
