Abstract
1482685 Fuel additive composition EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 13 Dec 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 53925/74 Heading C5G A fuel additive composition capable of improving the low temperature filterability of a petroleum distillate fuel oil comprises (A) a hydrocarbyl succinarnic acid or amine or ammonium salt thereof or mixture thereof represented by the formula wherein R is a straight chain C 14 to C 40 aliphatic hydrocarbon having 0 or 1 site of olefinic unsaturation, one of X<SP>2</SP> and X<SP>3</SP> is -NYY<SP>1</SP> where Y and Y<SP>1</SP> are aliphatic C 14 -C 40 hydrocarbyl groups, the other of X<SP>2</SP> and X<SP>3</SP> is of the formula -OH(NHY<SP>2</SP>Y<SP>3</SP>) n wherein n varies from 0 to 1, Y<SP>2</SP> and Y<SP>3</SP> are hydrogen, C 1 -C 30 aliphatic hydrocarbon or C 3 -C 30 oxyaliphatic hydrocarbon (defined) and may be taken together with the nitrogen to which they are attached to form a heterocyclic ring of 5 to 7 members and (B) a derivative of an alpha olefin selected from (1) a dimer of a predominantly linear alpha C 16 to C 40 olefin, (2) a polymer formed from 2 to 50 units of dimer (1), (3) an aromatic compound that has been alkylated with dimer (1) and (4) an aromatic compound that has been alkylated with a predominantly linear alpha C 16 -C 50 olefin, the aromatic compound that is alkylated being selected from aromatic hydrocarbons having from 1 to 3 benzene rings, from 0 to 3 alkyl groups of from 1 to 20 carbon atoms each and from 0 to 3 other substituents per ring, the other substituents being selected from COOR<SP>2</SP>, OR<SP>2</SP>, NR<SP>2</SP>, F, Cl, Br, and NO 2 where R<SP>2</SP> is C 1 -C 20 alkyl, phenyl or alkylated phenyl having 1 or 2 alkyl groups totalling 1 to 20 carbon atoms, the weight ratio of B to A in the composition being 0À01 to 10 : 1. The oxyhydrocarbon radical is defined as having one ethereal oxygen atom present in the beta or further position relative to the nitrogen atom. The fuel may be kerosene, diesel fuels, jet fuels or heating oils.
