Abstract

1482485 Oil filter LUCAS FILTRI SpA 19 Feb 1975 [7 March 1974] 7051/75 Heading BID [Also in Division F2] An oil filter of the 'screw-on' disposable type, for an I.C. engine, comprises a valve assembly consisting of a frusto-conical sleeve 10 incorporating a non-return valve 20 cooperating with inlets 7 in the end closure 5 of the filter housing, an anti-drain valve 24 cooperating with a seat 14 fitting into the central support tube (9) by which filtered oil leaves the filter element (Fig. 1 not shown), and a by-pass valve 29 which opens in response to rising pressure drop if the filter element clogs. The valves are all urged to closed positions by respective helical springs of various strengths. Valves 20, 29 comprise elastomeric washers backed by metal washers 21, 30. Valve 24 has a part-spherical elastomeric head and a rigid body with guide vanes 27. Sleeve 10 is moulded plastic, with a metal element 16, 17, 18 making a snap fit in portion 15. The valve assembly is pre-assembled and then inserted in the filter housing in manufacture.
