Abstract

1482178 Glass melting furnace LIBBEYOWENS-FORD CO 8 Nov 1974 48375/74 Heading C1M [Also in Division F4] A reversibly fixed regenerative glass furnace of the kind having a melting zone and a firing zone, the boundary between which is in the region of the maximum temperature of the glass bath, the size of the melting zone in the furnace is varied by dividing the regenerators on either side into a first regenerator 28 associated with parts 25 nearer to the charging end and a second regenerator 29 associated with parts 26 nearer to the discharge end, and arranging a damper 44 in common passages supplying air to the regenerators at each side of the furnace at a point between the first and second regenerators so that the amount of air fed to the discharge end parts can be controlled so that the position of the maximum temperature zone in the furnace and hence its capcity can be controlled.
