Abstract

1482093 Mining machines SALZGITTER MASCHINEN AG 13 Nov 1974 [9 July 1974] 49161/74 Addition to 1433756 Heading E1F The mining machine of Parent Specification is modified in that the impactor tool-carrying boom includes a variable length structure, e.g. a telescopic structure, instead of being an articulated structure and is pivotally mounted on the or a cross beam of the machine chassis for movement about an axis orientated perpendicular to the said cross beam and to the direction of advance of the machine. Preferably the boom is mounted by a carriage for rotational movement about its longitudinal axis and about upright and horizontal axes on a bridge 30 that is connected about an upright axis to the or one 20 of the cross beams of the self propelled chassis gantry 15 of the machine. Preferably the bridge is' pivotally connected for movement about a further upright axis 27 to a carriage 25 movable along a second 19 of the cross beams. The second cross beam 19 may be located either ahead of or behind the first cross beam 20. The pivot between the bridge and the cross beam may involve an axial rocker bearing 33 in which a guide rod 37 of the bridge is slidably mounted. Movement of the bridge 30 relative to the cross beam(s) of the gantry is controlled by rams 43.
