Abstract

1481874 Television INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 3 Oct 1974 [8 Oct 1973] 42946/74 Heading H4F Additional digital signals, e.g. further sound signals or other data signals, are transmitted during the back porch periods after the colour bursts of a colour television signal, the pulse repetition frequency of the digital signals being equal to at least the second multiple of the colour sub-carrier (i.e. burst) frequency with a start pulse preceding the first pulse of the digital signals. The duration of the horizontal sync pulses are shortened to accommodate the digital signals on the back porch, and the amplitude of the digital signals is arranged to be above the maximum level of the colour bursts. In the transmitter the digital signals are entered and removed from a shift register under the control of a pulse generator itself controlled by the colour sub-carrier frequency, the digital signals being produced by one or more analogue-todigital converters, e.g. from one or more sound signals. In the receiver a similar shift register is employed in the digital signal responsive equipment which is activated by the detected leading edge of each horizontal sync. pulse and the start pulses.
