1481805 Laminated panels JERED PRODUCTS Inc 31 July 1974 33759/74 Heading B5N A reinforced plastics panel 10 suitable for use for a pallet comprises a pair of heat-formed thermoplastic sheets 12, 14 situated in juxtaposed registering relationship and joined together to form an internal cavity, structural inserts having terminations, which are boundaries or extremities, e.g. faces, edges or points, in the cavity encapsulated by the sheets, the inserts being reinforcing beam constructions 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 of rigid material, e.g. metal, and compressible material, e.g. corrugated paperboard 32, between the sheets and rigid material to establish relative movement of the sheets with respect to the rigid material at the insert terminations to avoid internal stresses in the sheets due to differential changes in dimensions of the plastics material of the sheets and the rigid material of the inserts upon changes in temperature. Intermediate regions 26 and 28 may be formed with reinforcing ribs. The reinforcing beams may be box beams in which side beam 24 is provided with openings for receiving the ends of beams 16, 18 and 20 so that when the panel is cooled the ends of the beams enter side beam 24 without interference. Where the inserts form an internal corner one of the sheets may conform to the contour of the inside corner when X is heated and separate from the reinforcing member in the region of the corner as it contracts during cooling. At an outside comer the reinforcing member may be grooved and a deformable material provided in the groove. The reinforcing members may also be provided with longitudinal recesses or undulations extending generally in the direction of the axis of the member or undulations extending in a peripheral direction the sheets conforming in shape to the recesses during a heat forming operation and separating from the reinforcing member in the region of the recesses upon cooling.
