Abstract
148,175. Reissner, H. Oct. 21, 1916, [Convention date]. Screw propellers.- A hollow sheet-metal propeller is formed of two sheet-metal strips, each comprising one face of two opposite blades, and enclosing at the hub a space of rhombus-shaped section. Two metal strips 1, 2 extend from the tip of one blade to the tip of the opposite blade, enclosing a space 4 at the hub. This space is filled by two metal plates 3, 4 of greater thickness than the propeller plates, and a hub sleeve 8 with a flange 9 is fitted to receive the propeller shaft. The plates 1, 2 are welded, clamped, or riveted together at their edges, and the plates 3, 4 are provided with flanges which are similarly secured to the plates. The flanges of the plate 3 are within the hollow blade, and the flanges of the plate 4 are outside. The centre lines of the blades are eccentric with respect to the axis, as shown in Fig. 1, and are inclined backward in the plane of rotation, and in the direction of thrust. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the engine exhaust may pass through the hollow propeller to the air. This subject matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
