Abstract
1481705 Explosive compositions and charges MESSERSCHMITT - BOLKOW - BLOM GmbH 8 July 1974 [14 July 1973] 30171/74 Heading C1D An explosive charge is produced by mixing 85-95% by weight of granulated high explosive of varying grain size with 2-12% by weight of a liquid polymerizable binding agent, and moulding the mixture under a gauge pressure of 500-5000 Kg/cm<SP>2</SP>, followed by hardening the binder at a temperature not more than 100‹ C. The high explosive may be hexogen, octogen, or PETN. Also included may be up to 13% by weight of a desensitizing agent, for example a wax or a stearate; a solution or dispersion of the desensitizing agent in an organic solvent may be contacted with granules of the high explosive, followed by removal of the solvent. In examples, octogen is mixed with a polyester resin or with a polyurethane; paraffin wax may be present as desensitizer. The charges formed have higher density and higher compressive strength than charges moulded at a lower pressure.
