Abstract
1386542 Explosive compositions ICI AUSTRALIA Ltd 12 March 1973 [10 March 1972] 11801/73 Heading ClD An explosive composition comprises a major proportion of an inorganic nitrate, chlorate, or perchlorate coated with an asphalt and an antiagglomeration agent. The asphalt may be applied in solution in toluene. The coating material may also include paraffin wax or a drying oil and a hardening catalyst. The antiagglomeration agent may be a polyester, octadecylamine, sodium methyl naphthalene sulphonate, stearic acid and metal salts thereof, bentonite, clays, kaolin, mica, talc, or finely divided Mg, Al, Si, ferrosilicon, ferrophosphorus, titanium, or boron. Fuels and sensitizing agents which may be included are TNT, DNT, RDX, HMX, tetryl, PETN, smokeless powder, diesel oil, fuel oil, charcoal, anthracite, gilsonite, sawdust, flour, sugar, dextrin, urea, and sulphur. Oxygen or air may be incorporated as gas bubbles or as hollow glass or polymeric particles. Up to 3% water may be added, and also pigments, dyes and surfactants. In examples, the following ingredients are used:-prilled ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, asphalt, toluene, Al powder, linseed oil, cobalt naphthenate, vesiculated polyester beads, mica, paraffin wax, talc, and zinc stearate.
