Abstract

1481508 Tanning with oxazolidines IMC CHEMICAL GROUP Inc 21 June 1974 [22 March 1973] 13760/73 Heading C6C A tanning process in which a hide or skin is contacted in a tanning bath preferably of pH 1À5 to 8À0 with a tanning composition comprising a mono- or bicyclic oxazolidine substituted by one or more alkyl or hydroxyalkyl groups e.g. 4, 4-dimethyl- 1, 3-oxazolidine, 1-aza 3, 7-dioxabicyclo-5-ethyl (3.3.0)-octane or 5-hydroxymethyl-1-aza 3, 7- dioxa-bicyclo (3.3.0)-octane. The hide or skin may be further tanned by treatment with a mineral, vegetable, synthetic or chrome tanning agent. Alternatively the hide or skin may have first been treated with a vegetable or mineral tanning agent. Tanning compositions contain an oxazolidine as above defined and a chrome e.g. basic chromium sulphate or vegetable tanning agent.
