Passing materials through fluids; vats, construction of; vats, heating contents of. - A machine for dyeing linen, cotton, union, and other heavy goods with vat and sulphur dyes comprises a vat or vats 1, into which the goods 7 are passed, so that when thoroughly wet and free from air they sink to the bottom of the vat. This movement is facilitated by the method of heating the vat, which consists in placing a steam pipe 4 behind a partition 3 in the vat. The upper and lower parts of the partition are perforated to allow the liquids to circulate through the vat. The fabric 7 passes through squeezing rollers 9, 10 to the vat 1, sinking to the bottom 2, which is curved as shown. It then passes to the squeezing-rollers 14, 15 and to the folder. A scraper 11 or an endless apron prevents the fabric from being rolled up on the lower roller. The apparatus may be used for treating goods in endless-band form. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises an apparatus, Fig. 1, (Cancelled), with a feeding-tank, containing dye, which is used when dyeing with light shades and with indigo; thence the fabric passes to the vat 1, of which two are shown. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
