Abstract

1481011 Air cushion vehicles AIR CUSHION EQUIPMENT (1976) Ltd 17 March 1975 [18 March 1974] 11819/74 Heading B7K An air cushion vehicle, in the embodiment a load pallet, is supported at rest by four load pads 10 and, in operation, by cushions 3 beneath the pads each enclosed by a toroidal skirt 5 secured at 6 to the body 4. The body and skirt are apertured respectively at 11 and 12 whereby the skirt may be inflated and the cushion formed by air flows indicated by arrows. To reduce wear on the skirt by contact with the ground 2, the skirt is enclosed by a profiled toroidal sheet 15 wrapped round at least the bottom of the skirt so as to enshroud said skirt bottom without being attached thereto, the sheet having an annular opening 16 to enable it to be fitted over the skirt 5 and a cutout 19 to allow passage of air between apertures 11 and 12, the edges of opening 16 being reinforced by beads 17 and 18. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) an annular wear-resistant sheet envelopes the lower face of the skirt and is attached at its spaced edges to the body of the vehicle.
