Abstract

Alkylene glycol etherates of carboxylic acids are prepared. Starting from an oxirane, the compound is reacted with a carboxylic acid ester using a catalyst. The abovementioned catalyst has the formula MQn, the symbols being defined in Claim 1. It is preferred to use a catalyst and a cocatalyst, the cocatalyst being selected from the compound group comprising at least one nitrogen atom, phosphorus atom, antimony atom, arsenic atom or bismuth atom and at least one halogen atom or a carbon atom is directly bonded to the corresponding atom of the nitrogen, arsenic, phosphorus, antimony or bismuth.
