Abstract

1480768 Measuring liquid level electrically MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO 21 Aug 1974 [30 Aug 1973] 36746/74 Heading G1N(C) A conductive liquid level indicator comprises a series of identical coils 16-1 to 16-n and means 26, 28 for comparing the impedance of each coil to that of the next adjacent coil successively from one and of the series of coils to the other. The coils are mounted on a steel rod 18 and contained within a non-magnetic stainless steel tube 22 inserted from the top of the tank 10 containing liquid metal 12 to a level 14. The impedance comparing means may comprise a bridge circuit, Fig. 2 (not shown), and selector switches (40, 42) or two pole switches may be used to connect the coils in successive pairs, one coil in one arm of the bridge and the other in another arm.
