Abstract

1480744 Moulding matable articles MARDON ILLINGWORTH Ltd 8 Nov 1974 [10 Nov 1973] 52262/73 Heading B5A A pair of matable articles 14a, 14b are moulded in an injection mould 11, 12 in a non-mating separated configuration, the articles being located on opposite sides of a split line 18 in one mould portion 12, the mould is opened and a part 17 of the mould portion 12 rotated about an axle 22 so as to bring the articles into mating configuration. In the example shown the articles comprise a closure cap 14a connected to a hollow cylindrical neck part 14b by an elongated flexible web 14c. The neck part is designed to snap fit in to the open end of a container (not shown). The mould part 17 is rotated by means of a gear-wheel 19 and ratchet 20 actuated by a reversible hydraulic cylinder 21. When the mould is opened the articles are retained in the mould portion 12 by means of ejector rods 16a extending through mould portion 11. A fixed locating pin 26 extends into the web 14c and holds it in place until the cap 14a is firmly seated on the neck 14b. An ejector rod mechanism 16b finally ejects the assembled closure from the mould. The invention may be applied to the moulding of a flat lid container, the lid being joined to the container or being separate therefrom.
