Abstract

1480392 Flame-resistant rigid polyurethane foam DAI-ICHI KOGYO SEIYAKU CO Ltd 26 June 1974 [26 June 1973 1 Oct 1973] 28463/74 Heading C3R Flame-resistant rigid polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting a mixture of a polyether and/or a polyester polyol, a polyisocyanate, water and/or a volatile foaming agent and at least one amine compound represented by the following general Formulµ I to VII wherein A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP>, A<SP>3</SP>, A<SP>4</SP> and A<SP>5</SP> each represents hydrogen or an organic group; at least one of A<SP>1</SP> to A<SP>5</SP> being hydrogen or an organic group which contains a hydrogen atom reactive towards isocyanate groups; R<SP>1</SP> is a di-, tri- or tetravalent organic group; R<SP>2</SP> is a divalent organic group; m 1 is 0 or an integer from 1 to 7 and n 1 is 1, 2 or 3; wherein A<SP>6</SP>, A<SP>7</SP> and A<SP>8</SP> each represents hydrogen or an organic group, with at least one of A<SP>6</SP> to A<SP>8</SP> being hydrogen or an organic group which contains a reactive hydrogen atom; R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are divalent organic groups; wherein A<SP>9</SP>, A<SP>10</SP>, A<SP>11</SP> and A<SP>12</SP> each represents hydrogen or an organic group, at least one thereof being hydrogen or an organic group containing a reactive hydrogen atom; wherein A<SP>13</SP> and A<SP>14</SP> are hydrogen or an organic group, at least one thereof being hydrogen or an organic group containing a reactive hydrogen atom and R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>7</SP> are divalent organic groups; wherein A<SP>15</SP>, A<SP>16</SP>, A<SP>17</SP>, A<SP>18</SP> and A<SP>19</SP> are hydrogen or an organic group, at least one thereof being hydrogen or an organic group containing a reactive hydrogen atom; wherein A<SP>20</SP>, A<SP>21</SP> and A<SP>22</SP> are hydrogen or an organic group, at least one thereof being hydrogen or an organic group containing a reactive hydrogen atom; and wherein R<SP>8</SP> is hydrogen, a mono-, di- or tri-valent organic group; A<SP>23</SP> and A<SP>24</SP> are hydrogen or an organic group, at least one of R<SP>8</SP>, A<SP>23</SP> and A<SP>24</SP> being hydrogen or an organic group containing a reactive hydrogen atom; Z is oxygen or suphur, and n 2 is 1, 2 or 3, with the proviso that said amine compound does not simultaneously contain a halogenoaryl group or disubstituted amide groups and a terminal hydroxy group or is not an N,N<SP>1</SP>-dihydroxyalkyl urea or carbazide and that the weight ratio of the amine compound(s) to the polyether and/or polyester polyol is from 7 : 3 to 3 : 7. Numerous examples of suitable amine compounds are listed and exemplified. When a combination of amine compounds is used it is preferred to use a combination of an amine compound wherein at least one of groups A<SP>1</SP> to A<SP>24</SP> is hydrogen and an amine compound wherein all the groups A<SP>1</SP> to A<SP>24</SP> are hydroxylcontaining groups or some are hydroxyl-containing groups and others are organic groups having no active hydrogen atoms. Emulsifiers, catalysts and further flame-retardants may also be included in the reaction mixture.
