Abstract

1480107 Automatic control WELTRONIC CO 7 June 1974 [8 June 1973(2)] 41776/76 Divided out of 1480105 Heading G3N The subject matter of this Specification is identical with that described in the Parent Specifications but the claims are concerned with a computerized welding system comprising a plurality of welding heads, a first general purpose computer programmed to provide data storage and control functions for controlling various portions of the welding cycles of the welding heads, a second general purpose computer programmed to provide data storage and control functions identical with those of the first general purpose computer, said first computer being arranged to act as a master computer and said second computer being arranged to act as a standby computer, a satellite control unit for providing communication between the computers and the welding heads, an interface unit for interfacing said first and second computers with the welding heads and said satellite control unit, said interface unit comprising means for transferring the master function from the first computer to the second computer in response to a pre-selected signal, and switch means which is selectively manually and automatically operable and adapted to provide a switching signal to select which of the computers is to act as a master.
