Abstract

1479981 Movable magnet switches WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 28 Oct 1974 [26 Oct 1973] 46590/74 Heading H1N [Also in Division G3] In an elevator system, an arrangement delivering switching control signals in depedence on the location of a car in the shaft comprises a pair 122, 124 of spaced, magnetically responsive {normally closed reed} contact units responsive to the flux 130 of a permanent magnet 68 in the hoistway; the contact units being mounted on a car. Further control signals may be provided by the additional provision of a single magnetically responsive {reed} contact unit responsive to the flux 100, 102 of a pair 46, 54 of spaced permanent magnets in the hoistway. The zones 106, 132 over which the signals are provided are thus increased over single magnet contact unit arrangements. The contact units 122, 124, respectively 90 are mounted in plastics containers (30), respectively (32) see Figs. 2-4 (not shown) on the car, moving on either side of stainless steel supports (22, 24), non-magnetic supports (40, 42, 44) carrying the magnets, further magnet contact unit triplets (48, 56 : 92); (50, 58 : 94); (52, 60: 96); (66 : 118, 120); (64 : 114, 116); (62 : 110, 112), providing eight control channels in all. The magnets for such channels may be individually disposed in the hoistway to suit the particular control function, e.g. provision of deceleration, and landing control signals, rather than in rows as shown. To extend the zones 106, 132, more than two magnets, or contact units may be provided as appropriate. Means (80, 82) ensure that the contact units and magnets are accurately mutually located. In use contact unit 122, respectively 124 opens before 124 respectively 122 closes, contact unit 90 remaining actuated whenever in the flux regions 100, 102.
