1479690 Spherical metal oxides and/or carbides KERNFORSCHUNGSANLAGE JœLICH GmbH 4 Oct 1974 [16 Oct 1973] 43113/74 Heading C1A Spherical particles containing at least one metal oxide and/or metal carbide, e.g. those of U, Th or Pu are obtained by introducing a solution or sol of at least one metal salt, the solution or sol having an anion deficiency (as defined) of between 20 and 90%, into a liquid ketone phase disposed above an aqueous ammonia solution thence recovering the particles formed and sintering them. Carbide containing particles are obtained by adding colloidal carbon to the solution or sol. Spherical particles containing (i) thorium and (ii) thorium and uranium are exemplified.
