Abstract

1479498 Coated Ni Fe or Co base material BROWN BOVERI-SULZER TURBOMACHINERY Ltd 9 April 1975 [11 April 1974] 14576/75 Headings C7A and C7F An article comprising a substrate of a nickel, cobalt or iron based austenitic material having a coating of composition:- Si 3 to 15% Cr 10 to 30% Ni 50 to 87% Co 0 or 1 to 37% B 0 or 0À1 to 4% C 0 or 0À05 to 1% The substrate may be a Nickel base superalloy, which may be sand blasted and coated by electric arc, plasma or flame spraying, ion plating, chemical vapour deposition or thermal decomposition of a coating: binder slurry on the substrate. The resulting coated material may be heated up to the melting point of the coating at a rate of up to 200‹C per hour and furnace cooled using a nitrogen or argon atmosphere or in a vacuum. The resulting coated material may be ground or slurry blasted used a sand-air-water mixture to final smoothness, age hardened for 24 hours at 850‹C and may be used in gas turbine engines e.g. turbine blades.
