Abstract

1478895 Radiating line communication systems; repeaters BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD 21 July 1975 [22 July 1974] 32376/74 Headings H4L and H4R A radiating line communication system has at least one amplifying system comprising a first length 30 of line directionally coupled to the main line 10, so as to pick up part of the signal and feed it to an amplifier 40, and a second length 33 of line similarly coupled, for feeding at least part of the amplified signal forward into the main line. Preferably the lengths 30, 33 of line are terminated by respective loads 31, 34. A two-way system may comprise amplifiers 40, 42 connected oppositely in parallel, hybrid circuits 37, 38, and band pass filters 39, 41 tuned to different frequency bands for the signals in each direction. Alternatively a two-way system may use a separate pair of first and second directionally coupled lengths of line for each direction, Fig. 6 (not shown), care being taken to avoid instability. Coupling to radiating lines, e.g. of either the parallel wire type, Fig. 4a (not shown), or the coaxial type in which the outer conductor is C-shaped in cross section, Fig. 4b (not shown), may be obtained without breaking into the line.
