Abstract

1478856 Cutting yarn WILLIAM AYRTON & CO Ltd 19 Feb 1975 [4 April 1974] 15084/74 Heading B4B A yarn cutting device comprises an element 10 having a cutting edge 16 and a gripping formation 14 thereon and a further element 13 movable axially of and relative to the element 10 and also provided with a cutting edge 19 and a gripping formation 20, the cutting edges and gripping formations of the two elements being so positioned in relation to each other that a portion of the yarn to be cut is gripped adjacent to and at one side of the co-operating cutting edges before the cutting action commences. As shown the yarn passes through an inclined groove 17 formed in a rod 13 which is slidable in a sleeve 11 and formed with a flat 20. In operation, when the rod is moved axially, the yarn is first gripped between a bore (12) Fig. 1 (not shown) and the flat 20, continued movement then causing the cutting edges 16, 19 to engage and sever the yarn. In modifications, the rod may be stationary and the sleeve moved relatively thereto and the cross-section of the rod may be rectangular instead of round.
