Abstract

147,875. Wanderer - Werke vorm. Winklhofer & Jaenicke Akt.-Ges. Oct. 2, 1914, [Convention date]. Letter-spacing mechanism.-In differential escapement-mechanism of the kind in which the loose dog is associated with a stop which is adapted to permit of a single-space or a double-space movement, the universal bar for the dogrocker is operated by all the type-levers, and the stop is withdrawn to permit of the double-space movement by means of a universal bar operated by the key-levers that are associated with double-width types; the arrangement ensures the withdrawal of the stop before the dog-rocker is operated. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the type-levers actuate a universal bar 33 connected to rock arms 36 of which one abuts on a rocker 2 provided with fast and loose dogs 3, 7. Normally, a tooth 6 on the loose dog engages the escapement wheel 1, and the loose dog abuts on a stop 10. When released, the loose dog is rocked by a spring 9 until the tail 8 is arrested by an adjustable stop 13 which is pivoted on the rocker and is controlled in the following manner. The key-levers 29 associated with double-width types are provided with lugs 31 for actuating a universal bar 30 carried by arms 26 which are connected by a yielding link 27, 28 to a lever 21 engaging a roller 18 on the stop 13. Normally, a spring 14 retains a pin 16 on the stop 13 in contact with the end of a slot 15 in the rocker, and the stop is positioned for permitting of a single-space movement of the loose dog. When, however, the double-width keys are operated, the stop 13 is rocked into a positi in for permitting of a double-space movement of the loose dog. Thereupon, the rocker releases the tooth 6, the loose dog swings until arrested by the stop 13, and, upon return of the rocker, a tooth 5 on the loose dog engages the escapement wheel, as shown in Fig. 4, and the escapement wheel describes a double-space movement which is arrested by the engagement of the loose dog with the stop 10. The movement of the lever 21 is limited by a stop 24. Fig. 1, further movement of the universal bar 30 being permitted the yielding link 27, 28. The screw for securing the fast dog 3 may be employed for the stop 10, the head of the screw being employed to guide the tooth-part 5. To provide for uniform double-spacing, the universal bar 30 can be retained in the depressed position by means of a crank 38, Fig. 1.
