Abstract

1478346 Gas coolers; steam superheaters FRIEDRIGH UHDE GmbH 20 June 1974 [22 June 1973] 27388/74 Headings F4S and F4A A process gas cooler 1 used for generating superheated steam comprises a vessel having an inlet for cooling water, an outlet for superheated steam, and a plurality of tube coils 4 for the passage of hot gas to be cooled. Each tube coil 4 has a hot section 41, a cool section 43, and an intermediate section 42, the hot and cool sections, in use, being surrounded by cooling water and the intermediate section 42, in use, being surrounded by steam, the boundaries between the tube sections being the water level in the vessel. As shown hot gas entering the cooler through a brick lined inlet housing 2 at a temperature of 1400‹C passes into the tube coils 4 via tube portions 3. The space 6 above the water level is filled with saturated steam which, on passing upwardly between the coil sections 42 and associated surrounding jackets 7, is superheated before leaving at the top of the vessel. A portion of the water within the vessel may be removed and admixed with incoming feedwater. The pitch of coil of section 43 may be different from that of section 41 to provide a larger heating area in the section 43 than in section 41.
