Abstract
1478219 Current monitoring STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 20 Feb 1975 7158/75 Heading G1U [Also in Division H4K] A circuit for indicating the presence of a D.C. current in a wire includes a Hall Effect element 2 positioned in an air gap of a magnetic circuit, the primary winding 1 of the device being connected in series with the wire to be monitored. The D.C. bias supply for the Hall Effect element is pulsed and if the magnetic circuit is saturated due to a D.C. current flowing in the winding 1, an output pulse is produced across the elements output terminals. If the wire is found to be carrying D.C. on four successive pulsings, a bi-stable circuit is set to give a 'D.C. present' indication. Integrated circuitry and a programmed microprocessor may be used for controlling the pulsing operation and the analysis of the result, Figs. 5 and 7 (not shown), the micro-processor supervising a plurality of indicating circuits. The arrangement is applied to loop detectors in a telephone exchange (Divisions H3-5).
