Abstract
1478216 Fixing toner images XEROX CORP 6 Feb 1975 [25 Feb 1974] 5120/75 Heading G2H The apparatus comprises a first source capable of emitting radiant energy having wavelengths of the order of 0À5--2À0 microns, e.g. a quartz lamp 31, a second source capable of emitting radiant energy having wavelengths over 2.0 microns, a heated platen 30 over which a toner image bearing substrate is to be transported to directly expose it to the said radiant sources, and a shield 50 transparent to the energy emitted from both said sources interposed between them and the said substrate. The second source may be a low mass reflector that re-radiates energy from the first source as long wavelength energy or may be a resistance heating element 59 having an operating temperature substantially less than the said first source. The transparent shield 50 comprises a transparent film attached to frame members which are sprung apart to accomodate heat stretching of the film without sagging. A heating element 34 heats the platen 30 during standby periods only, i.e. when the quartz lamp 31 is not in use.
