Abstract

1478133 Meta-chloroanilines BAYER AG 26 Jan 1976 [27 Jan 1975] 2846/76 Heading C2C m-Chlbroanilines are prepared from a compound of the formula wherein X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP>, which are the same or different, are chlorine, hydrogen or optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkoxy, or aralkoxy, one of X<SP>1</SP> and X<SP>2</SP> being chlorine when 3-chloroanilines are being prepared and both X<SP>1</SP> and X<SP>2</SP> being chlorine when 3,5-dichloroanilines are being prepared and at least one of R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> is chlorine; by reaction of the compound (I) with hydrogen in neutral or acid solution at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of optionally supported ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, or platinum, or compound thereof and sulphur or a sulphur compound. The products of the above process preferably have the general formula wherein R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP>, which are the same or different, are hydrogen or optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkoxy or aralkoxy.
