Abstract

1406672 Hydrocarboxylation catalysts MONSANTO CO 25 July 1972 [26 July 1971 19 Nov 1971 (2) 24 Nov 1971] 34641/72 Heading B1E [Also in Division C2] Catalyst compositions comprise Ir or Rh or a compound thereof, a halogen-containing promoter other than a rhodium or iridium halide and, as a stabiliser, a trialkylphosphine oxide, a triarylphosphine oxide, a trialkylarsine oxide, a triarylarsine oxide, a trialkylstibine oxide or a trialkylamine oxide. The ratio of halogen atoms in the promoter to Ir or Rh atoms is 1:1 to 2500:1. The organic oxide may be formed in situ by oxidation of the corresponding trihydrocarbyl compound added separately or as a ligand for the Rh or Ir. The compositions may be used in solution in a carboxylic acid, or on a support. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specifications 1234642, 1253758 and 1316883.
