Abstract
1478057 Sintered extrusion mouldings NIPPON TOKUSHU TOGYO K K 10 July 1974 [14 July 1973] 30541/74 Heading ClJ [Also in Division B5] An article of inorganic material is sintered from an extrusion comprising particles of the material which has been plasticized by a binder comprising water hardening polyurethane dissolved in a water soluble solvent the extrusion being effected into a water bath into which the solvent diffuses and in which the polyurethane is hardened by the water. The solvent comprises dimethylformamide, in a weight ratio of 70% to 30% polyurethane, and preferred weight ratios of the material to the polyurethane and solvent are 100:20 to 100:70 and 100:50 to 100:60. The article may comprises a thin sheet, or a ceramic honeycomb for use on a catalytic converter for automobile exhaust gas. The examples relate to the extrusion of thin sheets from the following materials (1) and (2), Magnesite, Gairome-clay, and columine-powder mixed to obtain a cordierite composition comprising 2 MgO, 2 Al 2 O 3 and 5 S 1 O 2 with different portions of the extrudate being sintered in an electric furnace at a rate of 200‹ C/ hr, respectively to 1,380‹ C, and 1,410‹ C, for two hours; (3) an electric insulating substrate of a high alumina composition comprising, by weight, 94% Al 2 O 3 , 3% S 1 O 2 , and 1À5% CaO, sintered at 200‹ C/hr to 1,620‹ C for 3 hours; (4) a cemented carbide comprising, by weight, 93% WC, and 7% CO, sintered in a hydrogen furnace at 200‹ C/hr to 1,480‹ C for 1 hour.
