Abstract

1477836 Spraying of livestock I W JAMES 18 Sept 1974 [18 Sept 1973] 43635/73 Heading AIM Apparatus for spraying animals comprises an open-ended race, which is formed by a base 1 and tunnel 2, and arranged within the race are a plurality of spray nozzles 4 in supply lines 5 and side-troughs 11 to collect relatively uncontaminated excess liquid and lead it via pipes 12 to a trough 7, which is the main supply tank and is formed in base 1, whilst liquid contaminated by the underside of an animal passes through the walkway grating 3 into a channel 8. Uncontaminated and sieved contaminated liquid is recirculated to the trough 7. Ribbed ramps -14 lead to and from walkway 3. Modifications include a medial ridge 22 housing additional nozzles arranged to spray upwards, towing wheels, a mechanically moveable walkway, gates at entry and egress ends of the tunnel, spring-loaded side-rails within tunnel for centering animals, a draining area towards exit end of walkway, and diverging side walls at the exit end of the race.
