Abstract

1477605 Pipette SOC DES VERRERIES INDUSTRIELLES REUNIES DU LOING 29 Jan 1975 [29 Jan 1974] 3873/75 Heading BIX [Also in Division G1] A method of filling to a predetermined level a liquid sampling tube open at both ends with one end dipped into the liquid to be sampled while the other end is subjected to a suction effect to cause the liquid to rise in the said tube, said predetermined level being defined by a porous diaphragm such that its base is flush with the said predetermined level, the said diaphragm being constituted of a compressible absorbent material of open porosity over the whole height of the diaphragm in order to allow passage of air therethrough under the said suction effect until the pores of the diaphragm are occluded by engagement of liquid having reached the said level, whereby progression of the liquid column along the said tube stops at said level irrespective of protracted suction. The plug may be of vegetable or synthetic sponge, cotton, cellulose, balsa wood, or rolled or twisted paper. Pipettes so plugged may be used in the determination of sedimentation rate e.g. of blood. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1414487.
