Abstract
1477321 Travelling band air filter AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO INC 13 June 1974 [5 July 1973] 26381/74 Heading B1T In a non-endless moving band air filter, the glass fibre filter band passes between a lamp 60 and a photocell 62 adjacent where the band enters the filtering zone (Fig. 3, not shown) and the band take-up roll is rotated by an electric motor 54 to move clean band into the zone when the light received by the photocell falls below a variable preset level. The photocell resistance rises with decrease in incident light, and relay 84 is energised only when the photocell resistance exceeds the total resistance of variable resistor SA and fixed resistor Rl. Resistor Rl is large enough to prevent the relay energising even with resistor SA set at zero, and resistor SA enables the critical resistance of the photocell to be varied. Energising relay 84 closes switch 82 which is connected to motor 54 in series with a second switch 98, which is closed only if lamp 60 is on and if a switch 90 is closed, which opens if the filter band on the supply roll nears exhaustion. If the lamp is off or the band nearly exhausted, current sensitive relay 87 opens switch 98 to prevent the motor 54 moving and closes switch 96 to illuminate a warning light 92. Switch 90 controlled by a band-engaging arm (106) could be replaced by a second photocell which responds only to the absence of filter band between it and lamp 60. Or a single photocell could be arranged to control movement of the filter band and indicate band exhaustion. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1107182.
