Abstract
147,708. Rushen, P. C., (Optische Anstalt C. P. Goerz Akt.-Ges.). July 8, 1920. Bevelling.-A device for grinding two bevels at right-angles to each other on the edges of meniscal lenses comprises a templet q of curvature corresponding to that of the lens h, and having an outline corresponding to the intersection of the bevels to be cut, mounted on the lens-holder shaft and adapted to roll against an abutment disposed parallel to the grinding-plane. The abutment has two surfaces k, i parallel to the grinding- plane of the grinding-wheel l, when one of the surfaces k, i is worn, the other may be used. In machines in which the work-holder is oscillated to and from the grinding-wheel about an axis parallel to the axis of the work-holder, the abutment surface is curved, to a radius of curvature agreeing with that of the grinding-wheel, in a plane at right-angles to the direction in which the point of contact of the templet travels. Instead of making the outside edges of the templet co-operate with the abutment k or i, the templet may be bevelled to agree with the bevel to be produced on the lens.
