Abstract

1476648 Forced convection continuous furnace COMPTEX Inc 29 Aug 1974 [31 Aug 1973] 37778/74 Heading F4B [Also in Division B8] An inverted bag 10 of heat shrinkable film is placed over a load on a pallet 12 and air is withdrawn from the lower end of the bag during movement of the pallet through a heat shinkage apparatus. The bag extends below the bottom of the pallet and at the entry end of the apparatus hot air from nozzles 60 blow side skirt portions 10C, 10D inwardly underneath the pallet and weld the portions to the front and rear skirt portion (10A, 10B) previously folded under as the pallet is passed on to a conveyer 20. Air is withdrawn from the load through vent openings (41) into a duct 40. Slats (45, Fig. 6, not shown) on a reciprocable frame 46 successively uncover the openings as a pallet passes over them. The withdrawn air is passed over heater elements before being blown to an adjustable, hinged plate 80 which controls the flow through slits on to the top and sides of the load. Air flow is directed on to the sides of the load as it passes by the side slits by flaps 66 mounted on rods 67 which are rotated through levers 68, 69, 70 by the frame 46.
