Abstract

1476579 Mining machines NORTH AMERICAN GALIS CO 10 July 1975 [12 July 1974] 29100/75 Heading E1F A mining machine comprises a frame 22 movable along the main passage 12 of a mine, a plurality of oppositely positioned auger units mounted on the frame for transverse movement relative to the longitudinal axis of the frame, the auger units including drilling auger units 38 and conveying auger units 40, conveyors 68 positioned below the ends of the drilling and conveying auger units adjacent the frame for transferring material from the drilling auger units to the conveying auger units, and conveyors 102 positioned below the ends of the conveying auger units distant from the frame for transferring material from the conveying auger units to conveyors 112 positioned in recovery passages 18, (20, Fig. 1B not shown). Additional auger units 42, which are used to increase the length of the drilling auger units as they cut through pillars 14, are mounted on the frame for transverse movement and are stored in previously drilled holes, e.g. 118. The frame 12 is movable along the main passage 12 by means of hydraulically actuated skids 24 and may be elevated by hydraulically actuated roof and floor jacks 36. In operation, the material dislodged by teeth 48 of the cutter heads 46 is passed by the helical vanes 50 to the conveyors 68 where it is conveyed on upwardly inclined, flighted, endless chain conveyors to actuate plates beneath the conveying auger units. The conveying auger units then convey the material to the carriage mounted, flighted, endless chain conveyors 102, the latter discharging the material onto the conveyors 112.
