Abstract

1476211 Anti-roll suspension systems GIRLING Ltd 26 Feb 1975 [3 April 1974 7 Nov 1974] 14858/74 and 48250/74 Heading B7D In a vehicle suspension system arranged to resist rolling of the sprung part of a vehicle, actuator units 1 for connection one on either side of the vehicle between sprung and unsprung parts comprise cylinders 2, 2A divided into upper and lower chambers 5, 5A and 6, 6A by pistons 3, 3A connected to piston-rods 4, 4A, and the upper chamber 5, 5A of each unit is connected to the lower chamber 6, 6A of the opposite unit through a respective control device 7, 7A which comprises a damping valve 9, 9A acting to restrict flow between the units and a piston 12, 12A or flexible diaphragm through which the fluid in the units acts on a compressed gas chamber 13, 13A. A levelling valve 20 may be connected to the control devices 7, 7A to vary the volume of fluid in the system in response to non-transient changes in vehicle loading.
