Abstract

Electro-magnets.-A lifting-magnet of the bellshape type comprises a number of movable polepieces D fitting into recesses in the exterior surface of the magnet and separated from the body of the magnet by air gaps E. The pole-pieces are each hinged at one end to the body of the magnet, the other end being free and extending beyond the under surface of the magnet. The inner pole a' may also be subdivided and made wholly or partially movable.
