Abstract
1475547 Automatic control of concentration KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO Ltd 17 May 1974 [25 May 1973] 21976/74 Heading G3R In apparatus for controlling the concentration of toner particles in a developer used in electrophotographic copying equipment, toner particles from the developer are attached to a rotatable probe 32 by virtue of induced image force, and means are provided which measure the amount of toner attached to the probe and control means for replenishing the toner in the developer. As shown, developer D is urged by a rotating magnetic brush 23 past a drum 1, carrying an electrostatic image, and also past probe 32 which is preferably of conductive glass with a coating of tin oxide, aluminium copper, brass or iron. The probe surface may be covered by a thin protective insulating layer. The probe picks up toner particles from a cloud thereof formed in a space 50 by the relative rotation of probe 32 and developer D'. The amount of toner attached is measured photoelectrically, either by transmission, by means of lamp 33 and detector 34, or by reflection; alternatively the amount of electrical charge of the deposited toner may be measured. The photoelectric detector output, is fed to a circuit Fig. 5, (not shown) which operates a replenishing toner container 4.
